Fitlyspoken Ministry
A Food Court Christmas
During the Preshow playing Christmas music sets the mood. There are many collections of Bing Crosby, Mannheim Steamrollers, Nat King Cole and others you can purchase very cheaply. Remember that this is mall music!
As the play begins an announcement over the mall intercom begins the action.
Announcer -- Welcome to Westdale Mall (use a local mall name if you wish) all of you last minute shoppers! This is Christmas Eve and as a reminder the mall will close at 5:00 PM so our employees may spend the time with their families. Dillards is having a sale on their fabulous watch collection and Sears is marking down all drills and drill bits. And be sure to stop by Bernard's and pick up a Norwegian Argyle sweater for 30% off!
As the announcement finishes the Christmas music resumes and Maria enters. She picks up garbage from the tables and throws it away. She wipes down the tables. During her work she should not appear slow or lazy, but she can react to her pregnancy with a stretch to get out a kink and a pause to rest. As she finishes and exits a mall walker enters, huffing and puffing, checking watch and pulse. The mall walker should never stop.
Kaylie and Lindsay enter. They have been shopping so they should be carrying various bags and packages. They sit at the stage right table.
Kaylie -- I cannot believe that woman! Like I would ever wear shoes like that. They were for my mother! Didn't she hear me say that? I know I said it. I said it twice. I wouldn't be caught dead in those shoes. They were 'mother' shoes. Doesn't she even know what she sells? Like I would ever go into that store for something I need. I think she was just jealous. Did you see her hair? Whew! What rainstorm did she drive through with the top down? She took one look at me and knew she'd never compare so she decided to make me miserable. As if! Like she could get me all riled up. Ha! She took one look at me and knew she'd never measure up so she tried to tear me down. Here it is Christmas Eve and I walk into her store. You'd think she'd be grateful for a last minute commission. She didn't look like she could sell …
Amanda enters. She has been working as a cashier for a large store. She is harried as well.
Amanda -- He is the creepiest man alive!
Kaylie -- Who?
Amanda -- Who else? Mr. Creep!
Kaylie -- Your boss?
Amanda -- Yes.
Kaylie -- His name is Mr. Creep? That's weird, Amanda.
Amanda -- No, Kaylie, his name is Stanton, I just call him Mr. Creep.
Kaylie -- Doesn't that make him mad?
Amanda -- Not to his face! I'm sure I'd call him that for real. Duh!
Kaylie -- Amanda, does my hair looks okay?
Amanda -- Kaylie, your hair always looks fabulous.
Kaylie -- I know, but does it look good right now?
Amanda -- Always includes right now, so yes it looks good. Why? Nevermind, I wouldn't understand. Or care. So Mr. Creep comes up to me just before my break and says …
Kaylie -- Where was Mr. Stanton?
Amanda -- Who?
Kaylie -- Your boss.
Amanda -- That's who I'm talking about!
Kaylie -- Who?
Amanda -- My boss!
Kaylie -- Stanton?
Amanda -- Yes! The Creep! Would you just listen?
Kaylie -- I can't believe she thought I'd wear shoes like these.
Amanda -- So he comes up behind me and whispers in my ear. He got that close!
Kaylie -- I should probably return them.
Amanda -- "Hey, babe," he says, "You're due for a break." 'Hey, babe?' So nineties.
Kaylie -- They're probably too ugly even for my mom.
Amanda -- And get a breath mint! Gross.
Kaylie -- I want to see her face when I walk back in.
