"Life in the Palace"
Joanna and Joseph of Arimathea.
Joanna was the Jewish wife of a palace employee. Joseph of Arimathea probably knew of them in his dealing with the court. Joseph is USC looking above audience's heads toward Jesus (who is on the cross - but unseen by audience) and Joanna walks by moving from SR to SL, also looking up. Joseph speaks as Joanna passes him.
Joseph Joanna?
Joanna Sir? (turns toward him)
Joseph It is Joseph. (XDS2) From Arimathea, we’ve met before in Herod’s Palace. I know your husband.
Joanna Oh, of course. I’m sorry, (looks down at ground) my mind is not as it should be today.
Joseph I understand. (look up at cross) We can all say that. … (XSR3) - This is a sad day for Israel.
Joanna The saddest. Did you know him?
Joseph No, I’ve seen him, knew of him, but I never met him.
Joanna He was … wonderful.
Joseph So I am told. A wonderful man.
Joanna All he wanted to do was be a servant. Our servant. (XDSL3) - We failed him in so many ways.
Joseph What do you mean?
Joanna He did not seek glory or fame. Certainly not money. He taught us that our riches lie elsewhere. Heavenly riches were awaiting those who serve God. Everyday I spend more and more time on my wants and my needs. (X2Joseph) I may not live in the palace, but I spend a lot of time there.
Joseph How is that failing him? (XSR3) - I am wealthy, is that a sin?
