SAMPLE -- Joseph's Blessing

As scene opens Joseph is resting in the bed. Jesus enters.

Jesus -- Father? Are you awake?

Joseph -- Yes, my son. Just resting my eyes.

Jesus -- I can come back later if you’d like to sleep.

Joseph -- No, please, come. I will have plenty of time for resting soon.

Jesus -- There is great rest in Abraham’s bosom.

Joseph -- I pray I will be found there.

Jesus -- You will, father.

Joseph -- Thank you for that knowledge, Jesus. Now, help these sick bones to sit upright. I want to look into your face.

Jesus helps Joseph sit up right. Joseph coughs.

Jesus -- Let me get you water.

Joseph -- Thank you, Jesus, that would be good.

He drinks. Jesus sits on the stool beside the bed.

Jesus -- Are you comfortable?

Joseph -- am. Is your mother home?

Jesus -- She hasn’t left the house -- and rarely this room -- except to go the synagogue since you became ill.

               A bed for Joseph, a chair for Jesus, other appropriate items.
